The Unification Church is among the most controversial religious organizations in the world today. Governments of most countries have recognized it as a bona fide religion entitled to tax exempt status. A number of opponents denounce it as a cult which practices mind control.
In 1978, a Congressional subcommittee issued a report that included the results of its investigation into the Unification Church, and into other organizations associated with Moon. Among its other conclusions, the subcommittee’s report stated that “Among the goals of the Moon Organization is the establishment of a worldwide government in which the separation of church and state would be abolished and which would be governed by Moon and his followers.”
To that end, the Unification Church now owns and runs News World Communications, which is controlled by the Reverend Sun Myung Moon and has operations in 20 countries.
News World Comunications’ owns the American news agency United Press International (UPI) and the Washington Times. Other newspapers published by News World include The Middle East Times (Egypt), Segye Ilbo (Korea) and Sekai Nippo (Japan). It also publishes magazines (Insight, The World & I, and Washington Golf Monthly).
It is interesting that a man who believe in one worldwide governmet is controlling the media in the nation’s capital. The Washington Times reaches more than 100,000 readers in the Washington, DC, area – including many politicians.
